Why Teen Foundations?

As a teacher, I have seen the crucial need for foundational reading skills instruction for older and secondary students (3rd grade and up.) While foundational reading skills are typically associated with early childhood education, they remain just as important for many older students to learn. These skills serve as the building blocks for reading comprehension and academic success across all subjects. Many older students may have missed out on solid foundational skills instruction during their earlier years, leading to difficulties in grasping complex texts. By providing targeted instruction and support in print concepts, phonological awareness, phonics, and fluency, older students can bridge these gaps and develop stronger reading abilities.

These skills are relevant beyond traditional academic contexts. They are essential for navigating higher education, participating effectively in the workforce, and engaging with the vast amount of information available in the digital age. By investing in foundational reading skills instruction for older students, we empower them to reach their full potential, become lifelong learners, and succeed in their academic and professional pursuits.

I invite you to join me in my journey to ensure all students are provided with high quality, research-based reading instruction. As a Title 1 Reading Teacher, I have dedicated years to teaching reading. I’m excited to share the effective RTI interventions I have found success with for my reading intervention small groups.

Every student is unique, and as educators, we understand the importance of providing diverse and creative approaches to address individual learning needs. At Teen Foundations, I aim to provide teachers and parents with resources that offer alternative strategies for teaching skills that older students may have struggled with in the past. Here’s to a joyful journey of teaching and learning for you and your students!
